DENS forms a partnership with UMS for the development of the Hydrozine aggregate.

Urban Mobility Systems (UMS), experts in the electrification solutions for industrial vehicles and inner-city passenger and freight transport, are going to collaborate with DENS, the developer of the Hydrozine generator. UMS is a development partner in the field of battery packs, electronics and cabling for the Hydrozine generator.

UMS, known for the electrification of the Doosan 30-ton excavator, the Knikmops and Manitou (telehandler), is the ideal partner for DENS for the development of the battery system that is part of the Hydrozine generator. UMS is leader when it comes to the latest technology but they are not  losing sight of the safety and quality. “The experience and knowledge of UMS in the field of electrification of industrial vehicles is a great asset to DENS”, states Tijn Swinkels, CTO of DENS. “At DENS we strive for a generator with a very high reliability, with UMS we can also implement this in the electronics. DENS has been looking for a suitable battery and electronics partner for a long time, because few companies can supply the certified technology that DENS is looking for. At UMS we think this is the case. “For example, UMS recently received the ISO 6469-3 certificate, showing that they meet the highest national and international standards for optimal safety.

“We see a lot of potential in the Hydrozine aggregate,” says Lars kool, CEO of Urban Mobility Systems. “It is a unique and versatile technique capable of delivering zero-emission energy using a liquid renewable fuel.” The aggregate uses the liquid hydrogen carrier Hydrozine, which as a liquid, unlike hydrogen, does not require pressure tanks. Hydrozine consists of 53 gram of hydrogen per liter, and can therefore store huge amounts of hydrogen in a save way. Within the generator, the hydrogen is immediately regenerated from the Hydrozine and converted in a fuel cell into clean electrical energy.  “Through this smart and safe way of hydrogen storage and transport, we remove the barriers that come with the usage of hydrogen under pressure and we offer a user-friendliness that is similar to that of a conventional generator” states Max Aerts, CEO of DENS. By integrating the battery system of UMS, the generator becomes an efficient hybrid system, which means that fuel is never used unnecessarily, as is often the case with diesel generators. The integration also allows the generator, with a nominal power of 25kW, to deliver peaks of 100kW for minutes. This means that the same work can be done with a smaller generator, where in the past a 100kW generator was needed.

“UMS’s mission is to contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition by providing high quality and economically feasible solutions, as well as being reliable and have to ability to grow”, Lars Kool states. “By investing in a partnership with DENS, we are one step closer to our goal.” The collaboration of DENS and UMS makes it possible for the Hydrozine generator to be made available to the construction industry more quickly, thus giving completion to an emission-free process. The ambition of Rijkswaterstaat and the regional water authorities to be climate neutral and circular by 2030 is also within reach.
