Van Oord will test Powerhub batteries in combination with a hydrogen system from Nexus Energy to enable fully electric sailing and dredging. The aim of this test phase is to gain insight into energy consumption and gain experience with electric systems for inland vessels.
After completion, both Powerhubs will be transported directly to the vessel in Werkendam. The vessel, a motorized deck barge with crane, will use the batteries to both power the boat and operate the crane. In doing so, the project responds to the need for emission-free solutions within the maritime sector.
The development and deployment of the Powerhubs have taken into account the ES-TRIN standard. This European directive contains the technical requirements for inland vessels and guarantees safety and ease of use. By meeting these standards, we underline our commitment to safe and sustainable technology in inland navigation.
The Powerhub battery systems have impressive specifications:
With this pilot, Van Oord is taking an important step towards emission-free sailing and dredging. The insights from this test phase will contribute to making the inland shipping sector more sustainable. We are proud that our Powerhubs are part of this transition and look forward to the results of the project.
