Powerhub
Published on Monday 24 March 2025
Contractor combination Van Hattum en Blankevoort – Boskalis Netherlands (Combination KIGO) and Hoogheemraadschap Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard recently purchased a 10ft Powerhub with a capacity of 580 kWh. This mobile battery will be used in the ‘Krachtige IJsseldijken Krimpenerwaard’ (KIJK) project to power a sheet piling machine of the foundation companies VSF and Gebroeders De Koning. This enables them to install sheet piles with little vibration and zero emissions, contributing to more sustainable and environmentally friendly construction.
The KIJK project focuses on strengthening 10.5 kilometers of dike along the Hollandsche IJssel, between Gouderak and Krimpen aan den IJssel. This dike is crucial for protecting the Krimpenerwaard from flooding, but no longer meets current safety standards. The project is being carried out by a partnership of several parties, including Van Hattum en Blankevoort, Boskalis Netherlands, VSF, Gebroeders De Koning, Giken, Witteveen+Bos and Royal HaskoningDHV. The construction phase will start in August 2025 and continue until 2031.
The deployment of the DENS Powerhub enables the sheet piling machine to operate completely emission-free. This is an important step in reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting sustainable construction methods. The mobile battery provides reliable and powerful energy, allowing heavy machinery to operate efficiently and without emissions.
The collaboration between Combination KIGO and DENS in the KIJK project illustrates how innovative technologies and joint efforts can contribute to a more sustainable future. Choosing emission-free solutions not only reduces the impact on the environment, but also sets an example for the construction industry to invest in green technologies.
